I know that here in New York state, the largest complaint the average person makes is about his school taxes. Then the editorials start about teachers should take a cut, teachers should freeze their salaries, etc. I have NEVER heard of anyone in the private sector offering to take less money. We teachers have school taxes to pay just like everyone else.
The other side of the coin is that, as a Realtor, I have difficulty getting buyers to buy because the school taxes in our area are so exorbitant. School taxes go up every year because of the large influx of people from New York City. Our schools are bursting at the seams and, because of this, our taxes climb higher and higher. What a catch 22 situation! I can't sell homes because the taxes are too high and I can't pay the high taxes unless I have closings. When is this all going to stop?
